Your Social Wall Now Comes With an API!Try Our New Feature Today

You can haz Walls.io API!

We’re elated to announce the launch of our brand spanking new Walls.io API. If you know what that means then you’re probably whooping and pumping your fist in the air right now – in that case: Confetti! Balloons! Champagne for everyone! But just in case “API” isn’t much more than just another acronym to you we’re going to give you a bit of background information as well.

One API to rule them all

Basically, it means that you can integrate photos, posts, tweets etc. from all over the social web into your own app, project or website in one fell swoop, without having to bother with all those separate connections to Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Instagram & Co. It allows developers to forgo dealing with separate APIs for all those social networks and simply use just the Walls.io API, letting it work its magic in the background. Long story short: We do the hard work, so you can focus on your own app.

This, I assume, is where you join us in the whooping, confetti-throwing and champagne-glugging! 🙂

HTTP/REST based, plus a JavaScript SDK for those special cases

The Walls.io API is a typical HTTP/REST based API just like you are used to from Facebook, for instance. It currently supports different ways of access to the posts on a Wall: You can retrieve all posts (i.e. for initial import), recently changed posts (e.g. for syncing with your database), or detailed information about just one specific post.

The Walls.io API is easy to understand, and we believe most developers will familiarise themselves with it quickly. If you want a detailed look into our API you can find our documentation at http://api.walls.io.

While the HTTP/REST API will be the obvious choice in most cases we have also created a Software Development Kit that is based on JavaScript. The SDK includes a JavaScript Widget, a jQuery Plugin and a low-level JavaScript-Library (WallStreamCore), and you can get it at https://github.com/DieSocialisten/Walls.io-JS-SDK.

A quick look at possible uses

“But what do I do with it?” you ask. Here is one potential implementation for our Walls.io API: We used it to create new themes for our infamous “Starbucks” Demo Wall. Say, for some reason you don’t want to use the standard Walls.io layout – with the new API you can easily create a new look, like this one or this. Not quite what you need? Want to do something different? Go ahead then, that’s what the Walls.io API is for. We want to support you in doing your thing.

But we are curious to see what you will be creating with this newly released Walls.io API, so let us know what you’re up to. And remember, with great power comes great responsibility 😉
